If you had to change your name, what would your new name be?
I like my name, but that’s not what the prompt said, and we have to respect the prompt. So if required to change my name, I would pick something unique like Xavier.
If humans had taglines, what would yours be?
-No matter what, I will endure.
Do you remember your favorite book from childhood?
I don’t remember a particular favorite, but the Encyclopedia Brown books had a tremendous influence on me as a kid.
What fears have you overcome and how?
Fear of speaking in public and social anxiety. Although I wouldn’t say that I have completely overcome it, I work on it by performing stand up comedy. I had long wanted to do it, and finally got the nerve to audition at an open mic a little over a decade ago. Some would say that I was too old to start, but if you can do it, you’re never too old.
Describe one simple thing you do that brings joy to your life.
Every morning after I check my work email, I log out of my email and play a simple online jigsaw puzzle for 15 minutes. It centers me and readies me for my day.
How do you know when it’s time to unplug? What do you do to make it happen?
I get a feeling that I tell my wife “I’ve peopled too much.” If I am stretched to the limit, I detach from society for a while and listen to something or read a book or take a drive. We all need this because you can’t pour from an empty bottle.
